What is the SIAM e-book program?

The SIAM e-book program offers a new way for libraries and other institutions to access approximately 400 books published by SIAM over the past five decades. These titles have been written by internationally renowned experts and span a wide range of applied mathematics and computational science subject areas.

How many books are included?

The collection currently includes almost 400 titles. New titles will be available to subscribers as they are published.

What are the options for access?

There are two options: perpetual access purchase and annual subscription.

What is the difference between perpetual access and an annual subscription?

When an institution purchases perpetual access, they are purchasing the right to use SIAM e-books without limit or expiration. This includes access to the approximately 400 SIAM books available through the e-book program plus any new book published during the year in which the perpetual access plan is purchased.

An annual subscription gives unlimited access to the 400 back titles in the e-book program, plus any new books published during a calendar year. At the close of the year, the subscriber may renew their subscription for the next year; if they do not renew, they only retain access to the books that were newly published during their subscription year. That access will be assured online through Portico (http://www.portico.org/digital-preservation) or by purchasing a DVD through SIAM.

What is the cost for perpetual access?

SIAM academic and corporate members: $11,920

Nonmember institutions: $14,900

If I buy perpetual access, how do I get newly published books?

Institutions that purchase perpetual access may also choose to subscribe to e-books in future years so that they obtain perpetual access to the books that SIAM publishes in the years ahead.

Perpetual access buyers who choose not to subscribe after their purchase will be assessed a $300 annual maintenance fee. This fee is waived for current journal subscribers.

Subscription add-ons for academic or corporate members:  $1,200
Subscription add-ons for non-members: $1,500.

What is the cost for an annual subscription?

SIAM academic and corporate members: $1,520

Nonmember institutions: $1,900

How many books are published annually?

SIAM publishes 15-20 new titles every year.

Are all SIAM books available as e-books?

A few authors prefer that their book not be included in the collection and we honor their request.

Do SIAM member institutions receive a discount?

Yes, SIAM member institutions get a 20% discount for perpetual access and a 20% discount for subscriptions.

What platforms deliver SIAM e-books?

SIAM e-books are hosted on the same reliable platform as SIAM journals, so that books can be easily cross-searched with SIAM journals.

Usage statistics are retrievable. A completed Online Agreement is required for all users.

Can SIAM e-books be accessed by more than one user at the same time?

Yes, the SIAM e-book platform accommodates any number of users simultaneously.

In what format do the books appear?

All books are stored as Adobe PDF files and viewable by chapter.

Is there be any DRM (digital rights management)?

While SIAM retains all of its copyright protections and does not permit unapproved copying or duplication of its books, the files do not carry DRM coding or restrictions.

Are SIAM e-books be compatible with e-book readers such as Kindle?

At present, SIAM e-books are only available on the Literatum platform. We are considering how we can best serve the individual purchaser and hope to publish e-books for this market over the next year or so.

When did the SIAM e-book program begin?

The online SIAM e-book interface was launched on January 31, 2011 and is available now.

Are MARC records be available?

MARC records are available for download at archive.siam.org/ebooks.  We are also planning to have them available through the OCLC and Serials Solutions.
