Election Letter

August 2011

Dear Fellow SIAM Member:

It's that time of year again, time to vote for your SIAM representatives. I urge you to vote, your vote counts!

This fall, 2011, you, the SIAM membership, will choose officers: President elect, Vice President at Large, and Secretary, as well as three members to serve on the SIAM Board of Trustees and four members to serve on the SIAM Council.

I would like to take this opportunity to remind you of the distinction between the Board and the Council. The Council concerns itself primarily with the scientific policy of SIAM, and the Board looks after the financial management of SIAM. It is important to have a balanced and diverse representation and perspective in all these positions to assure that SIAM runs well, represents its constituents, and continues to represent the leading edge of applied mathematics.

The nominating committee has assembled an excellent slate of candidates with each position being contested. As members we should be grateful to the candidates who have agreed to stand for election and to commit their time to working for the profession through SIAM, and doing this with the knowledge that only half can be elected. All the candidates would most assuredly value your taking the time to look over the ballot materials and to cast your vote.

On the ballot, we have allowed space for write-in votes. We also value your advice and suggestions for future nominees. Please feel free to make such nominations and note them in the spaces provided at the end of the ballot. Ballots are carefully tabulated and suggestions for future nominees are noted.

The deadline for voting is November 1, 2011. If at any time you need help with voting, please contact the SIAM office (election@siam.org).

On behalf of SIAM,

Pam Cook

SIAM Secretary
