In the last two decades, many PDE models have been successfully applied in image processing and computer vision areas such as restoration, segmentation, enhancement, registration, etc. In these models, images are regarded as surfaces in a higher dimensional space and usually evolved by a geometry driven PDE to get the processed image at some stage of this continuous flow. A solid theoretical basis, challenging numerical techniques, together with geometry and scale being built into these PDE models are among the reasons of their appeal to scientists interested in image processing.
