Problems and Solutions in Special Functions

Sponsored by the SIAM Activity Group on Orthogonal Polynomials and Special Functions

10:30 AM-12:30 PM
Room: Sidney Smith 2117

Problems sections in journals such as SIAM Review and the American Mathematical Monthly have been responsible for attracting many young people to the mathematical profession, by providing them with concrete and significant problems they can attack directly. Furthermore, problem sections have traditionally been influential in advancing mathematical research. At this time, when the SIAM Review problem section is moving to the World Wide Web, it is appropriate to assess the history and impact of the problems sections, and their future evolution.
