SIAM is holding a block of rooms for participants at the locations listed below. Individuals should identify themselves as attendees of the 1998 SIAM Annual Meeting/Ninth SIAM Conference on Discrete Mathematics and should make their own reservations. Space is limited and reservations will be handled on a first-come, first-served basis.

Rates listed are minimum and do not include taxes.

Hotel Reservations

To register, please fax or mail one of the hotel reservation forms directly to the hotels listed below.

The hotels are located on Bloor Street about a 15-20 minute walk to the Sidney Smith Building and Convocation Hall of the University of Toronto where the meeting will take place. The Sidney Smith Building is located south of the corner of St. George and Willcocks Streets and/or corner of Huron and Willcocks Streets. The main entrance is 100 St. George Street. Convocation Hall is on Galbraith Street, between St. George and King's College Streets or 31 King's College Circle.

The Grand Bay Hotel, formerly known as the Park Plaza Hotel, is a full-service hotel located on the edge of the University of Toronto's main campus. The hotel has been completely renovated. Each guest room has its own fax machine, two phone lines, voice mail, and a telephone jack for laptop computers. A deposit equivalent to one night's room rate is required.

The Inter-Continental Hotel, which is across the street from the University of Toronto, has an atmosphere of contemporary elegance. Guest rooms have oversized writing desks, bay windows that open, dual-line telephones with voice mail and personal computer and fax compatibility. The hotel also has a complete fitness centre and atrium enclosed lap pool which are complimentary to hotel guests. A deposit equivalent to one night's room rate is required.

SIAM will keep a database of attendees who may wish to share a room with another attendee of the conference to reduce expenses. Please refer to the hotel room-sharing form provided.

Dormitory Information

University of Toronto New College, Wilson Hall (on campus)

SIAM attendees will be housed in the New College Residence which is centrally located within one block of SIAM's conference site. This is an air-conditioned, dorm-style residence with shared bathroom facilities. One or two people can be accommodated in each room. Breakfast, linens, towels, maid service, and taxes are included in the daily room rate. Breakfast will be served daily in the residence building in the main cafeteria. Laundry facilities are also located on each floor. Rooms range from single accommodation at $50.50 CDN = $36.36 US *per night for adults to $41.50 CDN =$29.88 US* per night for students (student ID required). Due to their popularity, twin rooms are available on a first-come, first-served basis at $82.10 CDN=$59.11 US*. One night's deposit is required with your application.

Dormitory Reservation

The reservation deadline is extended from Friday May 1 to Monday, June 1. To register for a dormitory package, please complete the dormitory reservation form and mail or fax it directly to the University of Toronto.

Dormitory Check-in

The front desk is available 24 hours a day to assist attendees with check-in, directions, and phone messages. To leave a message for conference attendees staying in Wilson Hall, please call 416-978-8877.

Conversion Rate and Taxes

*Conversion rate for CDN dollars to US dollars is $1.00 CDN = .72 US as of 12/97. This is subject to change. The rate of conversion will be set at the time of the meeting. All room rates are subject to prevailing taxes. Provincial sales tax 8% and federal sales tax 7%.

University of Toronto Highlights

  • University of Toronto's Bookstore is a great place to browse. The store has three floors supplied with books, videos, and CDs. It also stocks school supplies, gifts, greeting cards, clothing, and souvenir items. This is a must-see attraction when on campus.
