Welcome to Toronto and the University of Toronto for the Ninth SIAM Conference on Discrete Mathematics.
Discrete Mathematics is a rapidly growing interdisciplinary branch of mathematics that draws from various well established areas of mathematics, incorporates many new advances in computer science and has applications in other sciences and industry. This year we are fortunate to be running the conference concurrently with the SIAM Annual Meeting. I hope that holding the conferences together will allow the cross-fertilization that is so essential to the growth of discrete mathematics.
I would like to thank the members of the organizing committee, the plenary speakers, the minisymposium organizers and presenters, and those presenting contributed lectures. Thanks to the folks at SIAM for all their help in running the conference. And most of all, many thanks to you, the participants in this conference.
I hope you enjoy the conference and the city of Toronto.
