This minisymposium will focus on some current directions and issues in control theory of distributed parameter systems and related computational questions. The principal theme in the presentations will be control and approximation problems that arise in, and are motivated by, applications to vibrating mechanical systems and flexible structures.
The speakers will discuss control of vibrating flexible systems that exhibit chaos, control of flexible mechanical structures from one equilibrium to another, stability and stabilization issues connected with structure-acoustic interactions, and stability preserving approximation schemes for the approximation of vibrating systems with damping.
