To effectively model time-dependent multidimensional problems in scientific computing it is often advantageous to couple time-varying adaptive gridding with an efficient solution technique in order to focus the computational effort where it is most needed. The grid type, equation type, and subcycling in time determine the issues which arise in solving the system adaptively. In this session, speakers will discuss structured and unstructured gridding, with and without subcycling in time, for a range of equation types, with a goal of contrasting the advantages and disadvantages. Examples will come from the fields of computational fluid dynamics and computational material science.
