Statistical Mechanics and Extended Dynamical Systems
The speaker will review the work done on applying ideas from statistical mechanics to the study of extended dynamical systems: nonlinear PDE's on unbounded domains and their discretized versions. The methods include renormalization group to study asymptotics in the nonchaotic domain and expansions in the chaotic domain, where also the problem of phase transitions is addressed.
