Optimization Techniques in Control Design

Each of the four speakers will discuss use of optimization techniques for control design. The first speaker presents a novel application of interior point methods to design a stabilizing feedback controller for linear time invariant systems. The second speaker discusses an optimal control problem for Burgers equation. Burgers equation has attracted much attention in the last few years as it captures some important features of more complicated mathematical models for fluid flow problems. The third speaker presents a dynamic programming approach to developing adaptive feedback controls. The last speaker discusses an approach to active guidance systems for cars which utilizes techniques from optimal control.
