Following is the program for the 1997 Geometric Design Conference. Please refer to Program Updates for a list of
changes made to this program. This program WILL NOT BE MAILED to conference participants. An announcement containing the highlights of and critical information about the conference (same information appears here) will appear in the September issue of SIAM News and it will be mailed to all participants.

SIAM Short Course on Wavelets in Computer Aided Geometric Design and Graphics
November 2, 1997, Loews Vanderbilt Plaza Hotel, Nashville, Tennessee
Computational methods for geometric design are extremely useful tools in a number of industrial settings. In particular, computer-aided geometric design (CAGD) is of critical importance in the traditional fields of automobile and aircraft manufacturing, shipbuilding, and general product design. More recently, CAGD methods have also proven to be indispensable in a variety of modern industries, including computer vision, robotics, medical imaging, visualization, and even movie making.
The purpose of this conference is to bring together researchers from academia, industry, and government to discuss the mathematical and computational problems associated with the application of geometry to current problems of design, manufacturing, and the representation of physical phenomena. The conference will focus on CAD/CAM, curve and surface design, geometric algorithms, reverse engineering, solid modeling, and applications in areas such as computer vision, geosciences, graphics, medical imaging, robotics, and scientific visualization.
This conference will be of interest to computer scientists, engineers, and mathematicians from academia, government, and industry, as well as anyone interested in applying computational and mathematical methods to geometric design, or in any of the many applications.
