Scaling, Multifractals, and Nonlinear Variability in Geophysics

In our turbulent atmosphere and the earth's complex surface topography and highly variable interior, fractal structures and multifractal statistics are ubiquitous. In this minisymposium, the speakers will survey recent empirical studies, discuss the connections with the underlying (scale- invariant) nonlinear dynamical processes, and describe the corresponding (space-time) multifractal simulations including the (radiative, diffusive) transport properties of multifractals.
