The History of Numerical Linear Algebra
The development of Applied and Numerical Linear Algebra has been one of the mathematical success stories of the 20th century, and this success is likely to continue. However, once in a while, we need to look back at the history of the subject, to remember the founders of our field, to honor their legacy, and to review their accomplishments to ensure a vital future for our field. In this minisymposium the speakers will remind us of those who were responsible for establishing the field of Numerical Linear Algebra, and also describe the challenges that drive the mathematical developments and current technologies.
