PRELIMINARY ANNOUNCEMENT

This workshop will be held on the joint campuses of the Claremont Colleges June 16-19, 1999 and will be hosted by Claremont Graduate University and Harvey Mudd College, two of the seven Claremont Colleges. It is the third in a series.

WORKSHOP THEMES

The workshop will address issues related to the use of mathematics in industry. The workshop dates coincide with and will celebrate the twenty-fifth anniversary of the Math Clinic program at The Claremont Colleges. For more details on the kinds of topics that were addressed by the previous workshops, please see the listings at the SIAM webpage (www.siam.org). The Claremont Workshop will have themes relating to the experiences of academic collaborations with industry, consequent curricular changes, impact on student interests, etc. In addition there will be significant representation from industry. Minisymposia have been organized on problems generated by technologies from Hollywood, bio-engineering, finance and insurance, and satellite systems. In these, directions for current and future research in mathematics will be explored.
