Additional Information
Minisymposia
A minisymposium generally consists of four 25-minute presentations, with an additional five minutes for discussion after each presentation. To ensure balance, SIAM prefers a single individual not be the (co)organizer of more than one minisymposium, however, organizers can submit up to two (2) parts per minisymposium, allowing up to eight (8) speakers. Exceptional proposals with three (3) parts, allowing up to twelve (12) speakers, may be approved by the organizing committee. See instructions below regarding how to request a third session.
In addition, SIAM discourages minisymposia in which most of the speakers or co-authors come from the same institution.
SIAM also requests speakers submit only one oral presentation for the conference, either a minisymposium presentation or contributed lecture.
It is recommended that a minisymposium organizer make the first presentation. Each minisymposium speaker should submit an abstract no longer than 1500 characters, including spaces. The organizing committee will referee minisymposium proposals. The number of minisymposia may be limited to retain an acceptable level of parallelism in the conference sessions.
Be certain to review Guidelines for Preparing a Minisymposium Proposal.
Prospective minisymposium organizers must submit a proposal consisting of a title, a description (not to exceed 1500 characters, including spaces), a list of speakers and presentation titles using the Conference Management System (CMS) available at: http://meetings.siam.org/start.cfm?CONFCODE=pe18.
How to Request a Three (3) Part Minisymposium:
- Submit the proposal as a two-part session, with up to 8 speakers, to the CMS as outlined above.
- After the sessions have been submitted to the CMS, send the following information to Eleanor Jenkins ([email protected]):
- Minisymposium Title
- Minisymposium Organizers (name, affiliation)
- Proposed Third Session Speaker Information (names, affiliations)
- Brief statement supporting reason to request a three session minisymposium
If approved, session organizers will be provided with instructions on adding a third session to the CMS.
Deadline for submission of minisymposium proposals: February 14, 2018 DEADLINE EXTENDED to March 1, 2018
Deadline for submission of minisymposium speaker abstracts: March 19, 2018
Contributed Presentations in Lecture or Poster Format
Contributed presentations in lecture or poster format are invited in all areas consistent with the conference themes. A lecture format is generally a 15-minute oral presentation with an additional 5 minutes for discussion. Talk lengths will be determined by the co-chairs at the close of submissions.
SIAM also requests speakers submit only one oral presentation for the conference, either a minisymposium presentation or contributed lecture.
A poster format involves the use of non-electronic visual aids for mounting on a 4’ x 6’ or 4’ x 8’ poster board. A poster session is two hours long. Each contributor, either for a lecture or a poster, must submit a title and a brief abstract not to exceed 1500 characters, including spaces.
A poster may be presented in addition to a talk, provided the talk and the poster are on different results.
Please submit contributed presentations in lecture or poster format using the Conference Management System available at:
http://meetings.siam.org/start.cfm?CONFCODE=pe18.
Deadline for submission of contributed abstracts: March 19, 2018
