SIAM is holding a block of rooms at the Crowne Plaza Hotel. These rooms are being held on a first-come, first-served basis at $159.00 plus 14% tax, single/double. These rooms will be held for our exclusive use until April 28, 2000 only. Reservations made after April 28 will depend on availability.

We urge you to make your reservations immediately. You may do so by calling the Crowne Plaza Hotel, faxing your reservation or mailing in the Hotel Reservation Form. When making your reservation by phone, please be certain to identify yourself as an attendee of the SIAM Conference on Mathematical Aspects of Materials Science to receive the discounted rate.

Hotel Room-Sharing List

Please submit the Hotel Room-Sharing List Form if you are interested in sharing a room with another attendee to reduce expenses.

Location

The Crowne Plaza Hotel is located in the central business district near Liberty Place where a variety of shops abound. It is an easy walk to the Philadelphia Visitors Bureau Rotunda (16th & J.F. Kennedy Blvd.) for information highlighting the many historical sites within the city and surrounding countryside. Only blocks away is historic Philadelphia, encompassing such sites as the Liberty Bell and Independence Mall. The art and cultural district are nearby with a variety of museums, theaters and attractions to explore.

Deposit

Crowne Plaza Hotel requires a deposit equivalent to one night's room rate $181.26 to guarantee your reservation. The hotel accepts American Express, MasterCard, Visa, or check as a form of payment. The hotel will send out written confirmations.

Arrivals and Departures

Check-in time is 3:00 p.m. and check-out time is 12:00 noon.

Cancellations

If you need to change or cancel your reservation, you must contact the hotel by 3:00 p.m. Eastern Standard Time, 72 hours prior to your scheduled arrival to receive a refund of your one night's deposit.

Dining

Crowne Plaza Hotel has one restaurant the Elephant & Castle, a charming British pub offering a variety of authentic and traditional fare. The espresso bar, E & C Express serves specialty coffee and light fare, ideal for a quick breakfast. The hotel is surrounded with many fine restaurants. A listing of over 100 area restaurants can be obtained from the bell captain.

Recreational Facilities

The hotel has a fully equipped 24-hour fitness center located on the 8th floor.

Parking

Valet parting is available in the hotel garage at a cost of $18.00 for 24 hours, with unlimited in and out privileges. Attendees not staying in the hotel can park at a cost of $18.00 for 3-12 hours. The garage is located on Market Street between 17th & 18th Streets.

Fax & E-mail Capabilities

Each sleeping room features mobile executive workstations, 25" cable TV's with pay -per -view movies on command, coffeemakers, phone jacks for in-room fax and personal computer connections. The hotel also has in-room voice mail. During the conference, SIAM cannot offer e-mail or Internet access capabilities for individual attendees. We suggest you bring your own laptop and use hotel facilities. If you do not have a personal computer, the hotel business office offers this service at a nominal fee.

Weather

Philadelphia in May has a balmy climate with average temperature of 60 degrees. Light weight clothing with a light coat will be most comfortable. Remember to bring a sweater in case the air conditioning is too cool in the meetings rooms. Average temperature during the first week in May ranges between a low of 53 degrees to a high of 73 degrees.
