Recent progress in understanding microstructure in solid-solid structural phase transformations in 2D, within the energy minimizer schemes and/or the continuum elasticity models that explicitly account for elastic compatibility conditions at the interfaces, has opened new avenues for exploration in 3D and general boundary conditions. This two-part minisymposium aims to serve as a bridge between the Ginzburg-Landau and Energy Minimizer techniques.The speakers will discuss microstructure in ferroelectrics, magnetoelastics, high-temperature superconductors and constrained ferroelastics including thin films and other confined geometries, the relationship between multi-scale structures and physical properties, and the effect of external fields.
