Proceedings of the 2002 SIAM International Conference on Data Mining

Preface
The Second SIAM International Conference on Data Mining (SDM 02) contains 34 research papers, 4 plenary talks, 4 tutorials, and 6 international workshops. This year's conference follows a successful inaugural conference held last year in Chicago.
We want to thank all the presenters and attendees who joined us in Arlington to make this meeting such a success. We also want to express our special thanks to the program committee for the hard work they did selecting this year's papers. They reviewed over 250 submissions.
The SIAM Data Mining Conferences provide an important forum for researchers interested in algorithms, systems, and innovative applications in data mining and data intensive computing. The amount of data continues to grow much more rapidly than our ability to analyze it. Data mining is emerging as one of the critical technologies that can close this gap. Please join us next year in San Francisco for SIAM SDM 03. Information about the 2003 conference can be found at www.siam.org/meetings/sdm03/index.htm.
