Student Chapters Active

SIAM sponsors student chapters on numerous campuses around the world. SIAM encourages chapters to engage in activities to promote the applied mathematical and computational sciences and provides funding to help support these activities. The following gives a small sample of recent and upcoming activities at SIAM chapters.

University of Arizona offers field trips and a range of speakers. http://applmath.web.arizona.edu/students/SIAM.html

Auburn University will host the Third Auburn University Chapter of SIAM Student Paper Competition in March 2006. http://www.auburn.edu/student_info/siam/

The Caltech student chapter hosts seminars http://www.its.caltech.edu/~siam/student_seminar/ and SIAM/ACM tutorials http://www.its.caltech.edu/~siam/tutorials/.

Clemson University plans a field trip to Michelin Americas Research Center, Milliken Textiles Research Center, or the BMW automotive manufacturing plant.

University of Maryland at College Park sponsors Spotlight on Graduate Research. This gives graduate students an opportunity to practice presenting material to a general mathematical audience. http://www.math.umd.edu/research/spotlight/

At Rice University, recent graduate Chris Husband will talk about research being done at Metron, Inc. See "upcoming events" at http://www.caam.rice.edu/~siamchapter/.

Texas Tech held their 5th annual Graduate Student Research Day during the fall semester. http://www.math.ttu.edu/%7Esiam/mini2005.html

The University of Colorado at Boulder undergraduate chapter lists a number of activities, including industrial talks. http://amath.colorado.edu/siam/undergrad/2005-2006/events.php

University of South Carolina is hosting a lecture by Tim Kelly, who, in addition to his academic position, serves as SIAM's Vice President for Publications. http://www.math.sc.edu/~siamsc/
