SIAM Conference on Computational Science and Engineering (CSE23)

Affinity Groups

Affinity Groups are designed to help students and early career conference attendees get the most out of CSE23. Each Affinity Group consists of 10-12 students / early career attendees and a leader from the CSE community, all who share common interests in CSE. Affinity Groups will meet, at a minimum, at Sunday’s Welcome Reception and a special coffee break reception on Wednesday.

Affinity Group leaders identify conference highlights, explain concepts, and provide informal mentoring related to their area of expertise and interests. Each leader is assigned a small group of early-career CSE23 attendees with shared technical interests.
Affinity Group participants are students and early-career CSE23 attendees who want to meet people with shared technical interests and learn from leaders in their areas of CSE.
Sign up to be an Affinity Group leader or participant during early registration for CSE23. Details of the program requirements and areas of specialization are on the registration page.
CSE23’s Affinity Groups are based on the Guided Affinity Groups developed in the Broader Engagement Program of the Sustainable Horizons Institute (see, for example, https://shinstitute.org/guided-affinity-groups-for-be-mds22/). At CSE23, these groups are open to all conference participants.
