SIAM is a member of the International Council for Industrial and Applied Mathematics (ICIAM). While SIAM is happy to support ICIAM 2019, SIAM has no authority over any aspects of the Congress. Travel Support for ICIAM 2019

SIAM is offering approximately 100 travel grants, funded by the U.S. National Science Foundation, for individuals traveling from U.S. institutions to ICIAM 2019. Attendees based at U.S. Institutions may apply for travel grants to ICIAM 2019.

Funding for this travel award is made possible by a grant to SIAM from the U.S. National Science Foundation (NSF).

If you have submitted an abstract for a contributed presentation or poster, you are encouraged to apply even though you may not have received a notification of acceptance.

Amount and Terms of Support

The nominal limit of the travel support is in the amount U.S. $1,750. However, unlike other travel support for conferences run by SIAM, a free registration is not included. You must register for ICIAM 2019.

Travel support recipients can be reimbursed for expenses by filing an expense report after the conference.
For awards funded by this grant from the NSF, applicants must be affiliated with a U.S. institution at the beginning of ICIAM (July 15, 2019).

Travel outside of the U.S. under this program must comply with the Fly America Act. Learn more here

Preference will be given to graduate students, postdocs and early career faculty (within six years of PhD) who are presenting their work at the conference.

Women and underrepresented minorities are encouraged to apply.

Required Materials to Apply for Support
  • Candidate statement from the applicant requesting support and providing the rationale for the request and explaining his/her interests in ICIAM 2019. If applicable, the statement should contain the title of the work to be presented at ICIAM and a list of co-authors along with their affiliations. It should also contain a travel budget including expected expenses and the amount and sources of travel support other than that expected from this award.
  • CV of no more than two pages that includes an email address and other contact information, the date (or expected date) of the award of PhD, the institution awarding the degree, and advisor's name. It should also include research interests, and publications. If available, a URL for a working homepage should be included with the contact information.
  • Letter of Recommendation from a senior colleague or your graduate advisor indicating why you are deserving of receiving travel support and any special circumstances. This letter is required for a graduate student and it must be submitted by the student's graduate advisor. For an early career or more senior applicant, the letter is recommended but not required.
