Partial Differential-Algebraic Equations in Computational Science

10:30 AM-12:30 PM
New Hampshire 3

In simulation of time-dependent processes, refined modelling involving both compact and distributed elements leads to coupled systems of differential-algebraic (DAEs) and partial differential (PDEs) equations, in short partial differential-algebraic equations (PDAEs). Applications occur, for example, in multibody system dynamics, circuit simulation and chemical engineering. Driven by these applications, current research aims at establishing a basis for numerical schemes adapted to PDAEs: describing the analytical properties of PDAEs by generalizing the index concepts from DAEs to PDAEs, to predict the impact of semidiscretization on the approximative DAE systems, and to analyze the interaction between PDAEs and optimization. The speakers in this minisymposium will present a survey of recent work.
