Submission of Papers

The submission server is now available at https://www.easychair.org/conferences/?conf=soda2014.

Authors are requested to identify exactly one author as the corresponding author when registering the submission.

Papers eligible for the Best Student Paper award should indicate their eligibility at the time of submission. There is a box provided for this purpose on the Easy Chair server. Note that any paper whose authors are all full-time students at the time of submission is eligible for the award.

Selection of Papers

Selection of papers will be based on the extent to which the results and the presentation yield new insights for the design, use, or analysis of efficient algorithms. We encourage submissions from researchers in the discrete mathematics, and experimental and applied algorithms communities.

Paper Registration

Submissions must be registered by the paper registration deadline. In order to register a submission, authors should enter the title, list of authors, up to two of the closest “themes” from the provided list, and an abstract (in text format) on the submission server.

Papers eligible for the Best Student Paper award should indicate their eligibility at the time of submission. There is a box provided for this purpose on the Easy Chair server. Note that any paper whose authors are all full-time students at the time of submission is eligible for the award.

Full Paper Submission Format

Full submissions should begin with the title of the paper, each author's name, affiliation, and e-mail address, followed by a succinct statement of the problems considered, the main results, an explanation of their significance, and a comparison to past research, all of which should be easily understood by non-specialists. More technical developments follow as appropriate. Use 11-point or larger font in single column format, with one-inch or wider margins all around. You may include a clearly marked appendix, which will be read at the discretion of the committee. The submission, excluding title page, bibliography and appendix, must not exceed 10 pages (authors should feel free to send submissions that are significantly shorter than 10 pages). The submission must include a full proof of the results, part of which can be placed in the appendix, whose length is not constrained.

You can either include only the omitted proofs and details in the appendix or append a complete full version of the paper (reiterating the material in the 10-page abstract) to the submission after the bibliography. A detailed proof in the appendix or the appended complete version in the appendix is not a substitute for establishing the main ideas of the validity of the result within the 10-page abstract.

A submission that deviates from these guidelines risks summary rejection without consideration of its merits.

SIAM will provide final paper instructions to authors of accepted papers in mid-September 2013.

Simultaneous Submissions

Results previously published in another conference proceedings or journal (or scheduled for publication prior to SODA) will not be accepted at SODA. Simultaneous submissions of the results to another conference with a published proceedings is not allowed. At the time that the author signs SODA's copyright transfer agreement, the author must affirm that no copyright transfer agreement permitting the publication of a similar paper in a journal or elsewhere has been signed.

Best Student Paper Award

A prize of $500 will be awarded to the author(s) of the best student-authored paper (or split between more than one paper if there is a tie). A paper is eligible if all of its authors are full-time students at the time of submission. This must be indicated in the submission process.

Best Paper Award

The program committee may designate up to three papers accepted to the conference as SODA Best Papers. Every submission is automatically eligible for this award. Rules for the award can be found at Best Paper Awards.

Paper Presenters

The Program Committee expects every speaker of a scheduled presentation to pre-register and attend the symposium. Each speaker will be allotted 20 minutes for presentation.

Symposium Proceedings

Proceedings will be posted online in January 2014. CD copies of the proceedings will also be distributed onsite. Final papers may not exceed twenty (20) pages in double column format.

SIAM will provide final paper instructions to authors of accepted papers in mid-September 2013.
