A Brief History of Old Sacramento
On August 13, 1839, John Sutter landed on the shore of the American River near its confluence with the Sacramento River. With the promise of a Mexican land grant, Sutter and his landing party established Sutter's Fort. As the settlement grew and became permanent, it attracted other businessmen looking for opportunities
Sam Brannan established a store near the Sacramento River hoping to take advantage of the convenient waterfront location. The embarcadero flourished and was the prime trading center for miners outfitting themselves for the gold fields.
In the mid-1960's, a grand plan to redevelop the area was begun. Today, with 53 historic buildings, Old Sacramento probably has more buildings of historic value condensed into its 28 acres than any area of similar size in the west. Old Sacramento is a National Landmark and a portion is designated as a State Historic Park.

Please be certain to mention that you are an attendee of the SIAM Conference on Geometric Design and Computing being held at the hotel during the week of November 5 - 8, 2001. When making your reservation remember that the Welcome Reception is scheduled for Sunday, November 4th at 6:00 p.m.
The Holiday Inn Capitol Plaza Hotel requires a deposit equivalent to one night's room rate plus tax to guarantee your reservation. The hotel accepts American Express, MasterCard, Visa, money orders, or personal checks as forms of payment.
If you need to change or cancel your reservation, you must contact the hotel by 3:00 P.M. PacificTime, 48 hours prior to your scheduled arrival to receive a refund of one night's deposit. Remember to get a cancellation number from the reservations department.
Check-in time is 3:00 P.M. and checkout time is 12:00 noon

The weather in Sacramento during November is beautiful, average temperature is in the high 60ºF to low 70ºF range. The evenings can be cool so definitely bring an all-purpose jacket. Also, remember that meeting room temperatures and personal comfort zones vary widely. It is recommended that you bring a sweater or jacket to the sessions.
