AWM-SIAM Sonia Kovalevsky Lecture
This lecture is to be given annually at the SIAM Annual Meeting. The lecture is intended to highlight significant contributions of women to applied or computational mathematics.
The Selection Committee consists of two members of the Association for Women in Mathematics (AWM) and two members of SIAM, appointed by the presidents of these organizations. One member of the committee will be named chair of the committee, with AWM and SIAM selecting the chair in alternate years. The committee will be formed one year in advance of the date the lecture is given. The committee's term is completed when the lecturer for that year is selected.
The lectureship may be awarded to anyone in the scientific or engineering community whose work highlights the achievements of women in applied and computational mathematics.
The committee may solicit nominations from members of the scientific community. Nominations will be collected by the AWM office and are due about 10 months before the date of the lecture.
The committee should complete the choice of the lecturer at least eight months before the date of the meeting. The SIAM Council and the AWM Executive Committee will be notified of the final selection. The committee's report must be accompanied by a written justification and a citation of about 100 words that can be read when the speaker is introduced.
