Allen Klinger was born in New York City; he received the B.E.E. from The Cooper Union, and both an MS from California Institute of Technology and the PhD from University of California at Berkeley. He worked at Rand (Mathematics Department) on Control, Allocation, and Random Models. From 1967 he has been an Engineering Professor at UCLA, serving in the Computer Science Department. Professor Klinger has also worked at ITT Labs, System Development Corporation, and Jet Propulsion Laboratories. He has been visiting professor at University of Hawaii, Caltech, University of London and institutions in Israel, Russia, Ukraine and China; he was a Fulbright Fellow at the Indian Institute of Technology. In 2004, he was an invited speaker at the Institute of Imaging and Computer Graphics, Zhejiang University, Hangzhou, China. Professor Klinger has been a consultant at Rand, the World Bank, IBM, and Aerospace. He has published widely on image analysis, pattern recognition and optimization, concerning application of mathematical methods to image analysis by computer. He is a Fellow of IEEE and member of the Tau Beta Pi honor society, where he served as District Director.
