Graduate Student Mathematical Modeling Camp and Mathematical Problems in Industry Workshop

These summer workshops, hosted by SIAM and local organizers, teach graduate students to put their skills to the test by tackling real-world problems.
Graduate Student Mathematical Modeling Camp (GSMMC)

Graduate Student Mathematical Modeling Camp (GSMMC)

GSMMC is a four-day summer training experience focused on graduate- and advanced undergraduate-level training and career development. Students work in teams to model and analyze problems posed by experienced faculty mentors, developing the type of modeling and problem-solving skills prized by industrial researchers while in a guided setting.

Applications are now open and must be completed by April 19, 2024 for full consideration. Full financial support is available for participants.

Location: University of Delaware
Dates: June 20-23, 2024

Mathematical Problems in Industry (MPI) Workshop

Mathematical Problems in Industry (MPI) Workshop

The MPI Workshop is a gathering held annually the week immediately following the GSMMC that brings together researchers in the mathematical sciences and representatives from industry looking for mathematical insight into their R&D projects. The problems presented by the industrial representatives vary widely in nature but typically incorporate a combination of modeling, analysis, and computation. Workshop participants spend the week in working groups of senior faculty and attending scientists, postdoctoral fellows, students, and the industry representatives to discuss and tackle the problems in an informal setting, culminating in presentations on the final day and written reports in the months following the Workshop.

Location: University of Vermont, Burlington, Vermont
Dates: June 25-29, 2024

GSMMC and the MPI Workshop are supported by the National Science Foundation and the Jim Crowley Fund for Student Support. We are also grateful to this year’s MPI Workshop sponsors.
