SIAM Welcomes Three New Staff Members

Three new staff members have joined the SIAM team over the past few months. Get to know:

  • Eileen Echikson 
  • Mitch Graham

Tyquinten Allen, Sales Operations Coordinator

Tyquinten (Ty) returns to SIAM after three years from the Philadelphia Police Department, where he was a Law Enforcement Analyst. Prior to that, he worked at SIAM in Customer Service, Accounts Receivable, and Journals Administration. He has a bachelor’s degree in criminal justice from Temple University and a master’s in emergency management and homeland security from Arizona State University. 

Ty aids in SIAM’s sales strategy and provides quality customer service to SIAM members.

Q: Why are you excited to be working at SIAM?

A: I’ve always enjoyed the culture and work environment here. SIAM is offering me the chance to try something new and improve my skills.

Q: What part of SIAM’s mission statement do you connect with most?

A: I appreciate SIAM’s dedication to promoting research that will lead to new and effective mathematical and computational methods and techniques for science, engineering, industry, and society. I love the idea of playing a small part in the advancement of science and technology.

Q: Why do you think STEM is important?

A: I enjoy physics and love all the ways science advances our society. I also appreciate how technology and STEM impacts all these areas.

Q: What is one thing that most people do not know about you?

A: I’m an excellent cook. I can cook, bake, and grill and smoke meat. I love cooking for fun, even meals that I won’t eat myself.

Q: Why are sales important to SIAM? 

A: The great thing about SIAM is that we are constantly trying to find ways improve our services. Product sales help generate funding that can be reinvested into SIAM, in order to make our offerings better and meet the needs of our members.

Mitch Graham, Publications Marketing Coordinator

Mitch comes to SIAM from Omnitail, an SEM agency in Virginia, where he was a Search Engine Marketing Strategist. Previously, he worked for the Philadelphia branch of Job Corps, to coordinate and revamp their marketing efforts, while studying for a master’s in social work at New York University. 

Mitch’s responsibilities include developing promotional activities and campaigns to ensure the effective selling and marketing of SIAM publications. 

Q: Why are you excited to be working at SIAM?

A: SIAM provides a service for the applied math community that is essential for both the public good, and the future of STEM. It’s very exciting to help work on making SIAM as prepared as possible to continue to sustain this community well into the future.

Q: What part of SIAM’s mission statement do you connect with most?

A: The concept of building cooperation. Research and publication can be overly segmented due to the economic and administrative constraints placed on researchers by institutions at almost every level, and SIAM is committed to reducing the impact of these constraints and fostering a wide-reaching and inclusive network of experts.

Q: Why do you think STEM is important?

A: STEM is transformative by definition and, when it’s managed equitably, advances in STEM can lead to a better quality of life and a safer, more egalitarian world.

Q: What is one thing that most people do not know about you?

A: I played the alto saxophone for 7 years, including four years of jazz saxophone in my high school’s ensemble.

Q: How does marketing intersect with publications, and why is that important to SIAM? 

A: Marketing is sort of the connective tissue between SIAM members, the general public, and our phenomenal publications. Publications works tirelessly to produce industry-leading books and journals from industrial and applied mathematical experts, and it’s the job of the marketing department to make sure that content is available, well-known, and frequently utilized.
