SODA22 Participant Guide
We look forward to your participation at ACM-SIAM Symposium on Discrete Algorithms (SODA22), being held jointly with Algorithm Engineering and Experiments (ALENEX22), SIAM Symposium on Algorithmic Principles of Computer Systems (APOCS22), and SIAM Symposium on Simplicity in Algorithms (SOSA22).
Due to concern over an abrupt rise in COVID infections, the conferences will now be held in virtual format. Visit SIAM Hybrid Conference Guidelines & Policies for more information about when hybrid conferences pivot to virtual.
Please review the information below, which includes important participation details.
Virtual Platform and Mobile App Information
All conference registrants will have access to the SODA22 virtual platform powered by Pathable and accessible via a web browser or downloadable mobile app. A list of system requirements for access via web browser or mobile app are given here.
Prior to the conference, participants will receive an email from SIAM with instructions on how to access the platform. Links to access the platform using your browser and to download the app will also be posted to the conference websites listed above on siam.org.
The program is available on the SODA22 virtual platform. Times listed are in Eastern Time (UTC-5). All sessions will take place during their scheduled time and accessed via the SODA22 virtual platform. All sessions, other than plenary (IP) talks, will be held as Zoom meetings. If you are not acquainted with Zoom, we recommend becoming familiar with the Zoom Meeting format prior to the conference.
Invited Plenary (IP) speakers will be contacted directly by SIAM with additional information.
When interacting with the SODA22 virtual platform using your browser or mobile app, access a list of sessions using the “Agenda” option. After selecting “Agenda,” find the session you are seeking, and click on it. A “Join Now” button will appear when the session is live, where “This live meeting hasn't started yet” currently appears. Sessions will open to all participants one (1) minute prior to the session start time. Sessions will open twenty (20) minutes prior for speakers and session chairs. Additional information for speakers and sessions chairs is below.
SIAM’s online conference program contains the most current scheduling details and is accessible from SIAM’s SODA22 conference webpage. The agenda shown on the SODA22 virtual platform will be updated from the schedule on siam.org with a delay of up to two hours.
Speakers and Session Chair Information
The SODA22 virtual platform will recognize those serving as session chairs and speakers, and these participants will be able to access these sessions twenty (20) minutes prior to the session start time. Follow the instructions above titled “Virtual Platform and Mobile App Information” for instructions on accessing your session.
Every speaker and session chair will be greeted by an audio-visual technician from SIAM’s audio-visual partner, CMI, who will assist you during set-up. Please introduce yourself and indicate whether you are a session chair or speaker. The CMI technician will assist you with testing audio, video, and screen share capabilities. After this is complete, stay muted until you are introduced by the session chair.
Please note: Invited Plenary (IP) speakers will be contacted directly by SIAM with additional information.
Session chairs are responsible for introducing each speaker and adhering to the posted schedule. It is imperative sessions conclude at the scheduled end time.
To minimize disruptions in the event of a dropped internet connection, we recommend presenters send the session chair a copy of their slides with a phone number where they can be reached during the session. Session chairs can alternatively opt to play a prerecorded talk over Zoom screen share in exceptional circumstances.
A CMI technician will be present to kick off each Zoom session. If you encounter technical issues during your session, ask the CMI technician verbally or via the Zoom chat function, or request assistance via the “Need help? Get support” button at the top left of the SODA22 virtual platform home page if using your browser or click “Get Support” from the mobile app flyout menu.
