How to Prepare an Effective Nomination

A nomination for most SIAM prizes can be made electronically through the SIAM Prize Portal. If a prize follows a different nomination procedure, it will be specified. Each prize has a specific set of requirements that should be adhered to. Failure to adhere to the requirements may result in the nomination being rejected without review. SIAM Prizes that are currently accepting nominations can be found on the nomination deadline calendar.

Guidelines for Nomination Package

Below is a list of standard items that may be required in a nomination package:

  • Nomination letter
The nominator's letter of recommendation for the candidate should summarize the reasons why the candidate deserves the prize. For paper prizes, the letter should address the paper's contributions to the field. The nominator should list the experts who will submit letters of support. Nominations typically require two to three letters of support.

An individual may nominate himself/herself (or, for a paper prize, self and co-authors). Self-nominations are accepted. The nomination is more effective if a colleague makes the nomination.
  • Candidate CV
The candidate's CV must be submitted as a PDF. Some guidelines enforce a page limit.
  • Letters of support
Letters of support should state clearly that they are in support of X's nomination of Y for the Z prize. It is suggested that the letter of support be addressed on institution stationary. Letters must be submitted as a PDF.
  • Key Paper
Key papers must be written in English and published in a peer-reviewed journal. For many prizes, the eligibility guidelines enforce a range for the paper's publication date. The paper must be submitted as a PDF.
