This multi-organization partnership works to connect mathematical scientists in business, industry, government, and academia through various channels and efforts, with an emphasis on building job opportunities and increasing knowledge about internships.
The Gene Golub Summer School offers free graduate-level summer schools in applied mathematics, computational science, and industrial mathematics for up to 50 doctoral students. This program happens every summer and is free to attending students.
April marks a time to increase the understanding and appreciation of mathematics and statistics. Why? Both subjects play a significant role in addressing many real-world problems; they are drivers of innovation in our technological world, in which new systems and methodologies continue to become more complex. Learn more about this important awareness month!
In this contest for high school juniors and seniors, students experience what it’s like to work as a team to tackle a real-world problem under time and resource constraints, akin to those faced by professional mathematicians working in industry. The Challenge awards $100,000 in scholarships in 2018 and is entirely Internet-based with no registration or participation fees.
This program enables post-doctoral fellows and early career researchers to be strong advocates for federal investments in applied mathematics and computational science. Three to five fellowship recipients will be selected each year to serve two-year terms that include in person and remote training; attending the biannual SIAM Committee on Science Policy Meetings in Washington, DC; interfacing with federal officials; and participating in an advocacy day on Capitol Hill.
The SIAM Visiting Lecturer Program (VLP) provides the SIAM community with a roster of experienced and inspirational applied mathematicians and computational scientists in industry, government, and academia, who can speak on topics that are of interest to developing professional mathematicians.
