Student and Early Career Awards

General Information

The organizers of the 2020 SIAM Symposium on Algorithmic Principles of Computer Systems (APOCS20) have secured funding for several additional travel awards for students and postdocs. These awards are on top of those already awarded through the general call for travel award applications to the 2020 ACM-SIAM Symposium on Discrete Algorithms (SODA20) and its satellite meetings. If interested, please send an email here that includes (1) your position (student or postdoc), (2) whether you have a publication at APOCS or other co-located conference or workshop, (3) a SHORT paragraph articulating your travel request, and (4) a small budget, which also indicates any other potential sources of funding. Please have your adviser send a letter of recommendation to the same address. The deadline for all travel award application materials is December 11, 2019.

Student Travel Awards for SODA20, ALENEX20, APOCS20, and SOSA20

Thanks to grants from our sponsors, students who plan to attend may apply for travel support.

Any full-time student in good standing is eligible to receive an award. Top priority will be given to students presenting papers at the symposium or associated meetings, with second priority to students who are co-authors of papers.

An application for a travel award must include:

  1. A statement requesting the travel award and providing the rationale for the request and explaining your interest in attending the conference. If you are giving a presentation at the conference, include the title of your presentation and the name(s) and affiliation(s) of your co-authors.  Include a summary of expected expenses and any sources and amounts of other travel support.
  2. A current curriculum vitae (CV) that includes your contact information, the expected date (month/year) of the award of your PhD, the institution awarding your PhD, and your advisor's name, and other relevant information including recent publications. In addition, you may provide a URL for a working web page that expands on the information in your CV.
  3. The name and email address of your advisor who should be asked to provide a letter of support for your application and any special circumstances. We will send a separate email requesting the letter from your advisor. The email will include instructions on how to submit the letter. You will not be able to directly upload the letter of support as part of the application process. Note that the submission deadline for the letter is the same as the deadline for application.

All submissions must be in PDF format.
