SIAM Conference on Uncertainty Quantification (UQ24)

General Information


The conference will be held at the Savoia Excelsior Palace Trieste and Stazione Marittima.

Standard Audio-visual Set-up in Meeting Rooms

All speakers must provide their own computers; computers will *not* be provided in the meeting rooms. Participants are also responsible for bringing electric adaptors for EU plugs (220V).

An LCD projector, screen, microphone and laser pointer will be provided.


Internet Access

Wifi information for both the Savoia Excelsior Palace Hotel and Stazione Marittima will be distributed at the registration desk.

Trieste can be reached by plane, train, bus, shuttles or car/taxi

Trieste Airport (TRS): Voli diretti - Trieste Airport. (from/to Rome, Milano Linate, Frankfurt)

The trip from Trieste’s airport to Trieste main station will last approximately 30’.

Venice Airport (VCE): Aeroporto di Venezia - Aeroporto Marco Polo Tessera (VCE) (veneziaairport.it) Venice is a very important tourist gateway to the country with many international, domestic, and European flights.

From Venice Airport (VCE) you can get a shuttle/bus/taxi to Venezia Mestre train station (20’), from which trains depart to Trieste (https://www.trenitalia.com/) , bus FlixBus (https://www.flixbus.it/), go-opti (https://www.goopti.com/en/) e science-bus (https://www.science-bus.com/user/index.php?l=en).

We do suggest TRS and VCE as closest airports. Trieste Airport is connected with Rome with 4 daily flights by ITA Airways and 2 daily flights with Milano Linate (ITA Airways) and Frankfurt (Lufthansa).

Roma Fiumicino Airport (FCO): -Fiumicino - Aeroporti di Roma (adr.it) with intercontinental, European and domestic flights connecting to Trieste by air, or by train.

Milano Malpensa Airport (MXP):www.milanomalpensa-airport.com with direct international, domestic, and European flights operated by several airlines.

Milano Linate Airport (LIN):https://www.milanolinate-airport.com with domestic and European flights operated by several airlines.

Poster Session

If giving a poster presentation, please review the Guidelines for Poster Presenters. Please note a poster format involves the use of non-electronic visual aids for mounting on a A0 portrait sized poster board (European Format). Poster presenters may not order any additional audio-visual equipment, and electricity will *not* be provided.


SIAM Books and Journals

Visa Information

Some participants will require an invitation letter to obtain a visa to visit Italy. 

Additionally, as of January 1, 2024 new requirements for travel to Europe will apply, affecting people from over 60 visa-exempt countries. Learn more and apply for ETIAS travel authorization.


Letter of Invitation

Confirmed authors in need of a Letter of Invitation to assist in the visa application process, please fill out the Letter of Invitation Request Form. Please allow three to four weeks for processing and delivery.

If you are not planning to present or are not yet an accepted author and need a letter of invitation before acceptance notifications are sent, please fill out Letter of Invitation Request Form AND email the following information to SIAM Conferences:

  • Brief curriculum vitae (including your date of birth and a list of publications over the past 3 years).
  • Brief statement why attending would help your research and career.
  • Letter of recommendation. Have a senior person (e.g. Ph.D. advisor, head of department, president of a mathematical society) write a brief letter of recommendation on appropriate letterhead. This letter is not needed if you have a minimum of twelve entries in MathSciNet or other suitable professional database. If you are using MathSciNet, please state so and include your “MR Author ID” in your message to [email protected]. If using another professional database, provide the name of the database and associated ID or URL in your message to [email protected].
